BS6622 cables are armoured cables with thermosetting insulation, designed for medium voltage applications ranging from 3.8/6.6kV to 19/33kV. These cables are manufactured in compliance with British Standard BS6622, ensuring high-quality performance for critical power projects.

Cable Construction

  1. Conductor: Stranded copper (Class 2), aluminium stranded (Class 2), or solid (Class 1)
  2. Insulation: Cross-linked Polyethylene (XLPE) or Ethylene Propylene Rubber (EPR)
  3. Insulation Screen: Semi-conductive polymer or tape
  4. Metallic Screen: Copper wire or tape
  5. Inner Sheath: PVC bedding material
  6. Armour: Aluminium wires (single core) or galvanised steel wires (three core)
  7. Outer Sheath: PVC or MDPE (Medium Density Polyethylene)

Applications

  • Suitable for direct burial, external installations, and internal installations (PVC sheathed cables are CPR compliant for internal use).
  • Designed for air installations or burial in free-draining soil.

System Categories

BS6622 cables are categorised based on system requirements:

  • Category A: Systems disconnecting within 1 minute upon contact with earth
  • Category B: Systems operating under fault conditions for up to 8 hours
  • Category C: Systems not covered under A or B
